Salingers in Vilkaviskis

Przersol 1825

On the 22nd of November 1825 before us, the Officer of the Civil State Authority, Seyny District, appeared the Jew Hirza Leybowicz Zelinger, 19 years old according to the birth certificate made by the Mayor of the town of Wilkowiszki, and confirmed by the notary of Kalvarija on the 17th August 1825.

The witness Josek Giermancz 38 years old and Icko Chlanow 57 years old, declared that they well know Hirza Leybowicz Zelinger who is going to get married and that he was born in the town of Wilkowiszki and that his father is Leyba Zelikowicz and the mother Chana  Boruchow, both still living.

There appeared also the bride, Sara Mowszowna, being 17 years old, according to the birth certificate, made in Seyny district and confirmed there on 22 August 1825. The witness, Ilko Jankielowicz, 57 years old and Todrys .Berkowicz, 54 years old, both residents of the town of Seyny declared that Sara Mowszowna, who is going to marry, was born in the town of Przersol, of the father Mowszy Raczkowski and the mother Bella who are still living.

No obstacle was found to contracting of the marriage and both families were agreed, so after reading the all the above mentioned papers, we asked the future spouses if they wish to marry and both answered separately, that it was their wish.

Thus in the name of the law, we announce that Hirza Leybowicz  and Sara Mowszowna are married. Then we wrote this act in the presence of the witnesses and they signed it.

Newly discovered picture of Jewish Gravestone

Mr. Eric Friedman has kindly sent me this picture - from around 1900 showing one of his family's graves in the Vilkaviskis Jewish Cemetery.

It shows the traditional "chalet" style graves that were very common at this time.

This is perhaps the best picture I have seen and thank you Eric for allowing me the share
this.
